3 LinkedIn Messages That Allowed Me To Grow To $25k/month
4min read
On LinkedIn, your messages should be short, direct, and simple. Whether you're messaging a CEO, a VP, or a manager, the strategy remains the same: keep it concise.
I used just three core messages to help scale my business to $25k in monthly recurring revenue - this was across 40 clients. I tailored these messages based on the industry I was targeting, but the overall structure remains the same. They are designed to get responses, create conversations, and lead to meetings. If you're wondering what those messages look like, here’s my breakdown:
Message 1: Low Pressure, Just a Question
After someone accepts your connection request, your goal with the first message is to get a response—nothing more. A lot of people overcomplicate this step, thinking they need to jump right into a pitch…
Here’s an example of my messaging that works:
Hi [Name], thanks for connecting! Curious how is the hiring strategy managed for your team? Do you oversee it, or is there another contact handling that?
It’s straightforward, easy to digest, and invites a simple yes or no response. The best part? Even if they don’t handle hiring directly, they may point you to someone who does, opening up a new opportunity.
Message 2: Even Simpler, Even Shorter
This one’s even more casual:
Hi [Name], thanks for connecting! What’s your hand in the hiring strategy?
That’s it. One line, straight to the point. This works especially well for senior roles like directors or VPs, who appreciate brevity. It feels more low pressure, but still piquing curiosity than a longer form message or sales pitch, and that’s the key to making them engage.
For the third message, you can add in some social proof, but keep it low pressure:
Glad to connect, [Name] - how’s Q4 going? I’ve helped staff innovative data scientist teams at Salesforce, Microsoft, and Cloudflare. Open to connecting next week?
The mention of well known companies adds credibility, especially if you’re targeting businesses that are also in Enterprise. You’re still keeping it casual, but now you’re hinting at what you bring to the table.
Why These Messages Work
Each of these messages is designed to be low-pressure, quick to read, and easy to respond to. People appreciate brevity, especially when they’re likely reading your message on their phone. They’re not looking for a full-blown pitch right away…they’re just looking for something that piques their curiosity and makes them want to engage in a conversation.
A common mistake is thinking that LinkedIn outreach needs to be a mini email. That’s not the case. It’s more like texting. Keep it short, clear, and relevant. Yes, you might hear people complain about getting pitched too quickly, but in my experience, it's not about if you pitch, but about how you do it. Lazy pitches are what annoy people, not the fact that you’re pitching at all.
RECAP:
These three simple messages helped me grow to $25k in recurring revenue, but more importantly, they helped me start meaningful conversations that led to real business. The key is to humanize your outreach…think about what matters to the person you’re messaging and frame your questions accordingly.
Hope this helps!
